Alright so... this post will probably gain me a lot of hate, and maybe have me lose a reader or two. But it's how I feel, it's what I think. I normally don't write anything serious, and I don't normally write anything too thought provoking.
I support gay marriage. How would you feel if you loved someone, you loved someone with all of your heart and all of your soul but you couldn't get married. You couldn't get married because people didn't approve of your relationship. People didn't approve of who you loved. People didn't understand.
The Declaration of Independence says "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness".
Do you think that the Founding Fathers said this so that we could pick and choose whom we wanted to give these rights to? Do you think that marrying the person you love is not life, liberty, or the pursuit of happiness? Do you think that it is your position to judge who someone loves? Is it hurting you in any way, shape, or form?
And I don't care if you think that it's "not right". Well, for a while, people said that it wasn't right for a black person to marry a white person. Do you think that that was okay?
Other people say that it's not okay because they can't create children. What about someone who is sterile? Should they not be able to get married because they cannot create children with their spouse? No. Because that's not right.
And they can have kids. One of them could have a child, whether it be with a donor or a surrogate.
And if you think that it is because of religion that you think that it is wrong? I am a Christian, and I still think that it's okay. Do you think that God put us on this world to be unhappy? Do you think that he doesn't love us enough to want what's best for us?
Am I gay? No. But a lot of our family friends are. And I like them just as much. So please, please, try to be more accepting. Try to change your mind. I know that my blog post isn't going to change the world. But if even one person reads this and changes their mind, then even one person can make all of the difference. I know that this won't happen quickly. I know that it's going to be slow. But please, please, please at least listen to me.
And if you are out there, and you are afraid to come out, or you're confused. Trust me. Everything will be okay. I promise you.
